ST LOUIS, Mo – The St. Louis Blues continued to play their inconsistent hockey this week as they would see their winning streaked snapped against Columbus to open the week.  After a mediocre Canadian trip to Montreal and Ottawa, the Blues found themselves limping home to play the Ducks on Saturday night.  Anaheim has been a troublemaker for the Blues all season as the Ducks manage to consistently nip the Blues for one win after another.  The Blues would finish the week 1-2-1.

Columbus, Ohio – The St. Louis Blues ended their winning streak the same way they began it; against Columbus.  The Blues Jackets received two goals in the first period from Raffi Torres to help down the Blues who recently came off one of their best weeks of the season.  Mathieu Garon stopped 30 shots on goal for his seventh win this season.

Montreal, Quebec – Alexander Steen, Paul Kariya, and T.J. Oshie contributed two points apiece to stave off Montreal’s late third period rally.  Andy McDonald scored the game winning goal three minutes into the overtime period to give St. Louis their fifth win in their last six games.

Ottawa, Ontario – The Senators jumped to an early two goal lead on St. Louis to have control of the game at the midway point.  The Blues fought back with goals from Eric Brewer and Brad Boyes to even the game 30 seconds into the third period.  Despite the hard fight back though, Chris Phillips scored the game winner for Ottawa on a wrist midway through the third period.

St. Louis, Missouri – The St. Louis Blues blew a 3-0 lead and then failed to finish off Anaheim as the Ducks would score three unanswered goals in the third period to force overtime on Saturday evening.  Andy McDonald, B.J. Crombeen, and T.J. Oshie scored to put the Blues up 3-0 early in the third period.  Anaheim would score three times in the third before skating to a scoreless overtime period.  Anaheim would win the seven man shoot out 3-2 to nip the Blues for the second time this month.

Team News: Chris Mason was one of three NHL Stars for the week ending January 17, 2010.  Mason posted a 3-0-0 record with a stymieing .067 goals against average.  Mason finished the week with a .971 save percentage.

The Blues hired Tyler Love as goalie consultant this week.  Love has a strong reputation of working with younger developing goaltenders is also an offseason coach for Chris Mason. 

Blues Clues: Paul Kariya is still waiting to score his first goal of the season at home.  However the veteran left winger has scored eight points on home ice thus far.

Quote of the Week: from Head Coach Davis Payne about Saturday’s loss to Anaheim:

"If you don't play your game, you can't expect results.  We didn't play our game in the third period."
