ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Pro Hockey News has supported a number of charities over the last five seasons including several in New Mexico.  One of those programs supported by PHN is the New Mexico IceHoles Charitable Foundation in Rio Rancho.  The IceHoles Foundation is based on an amateur hockey club and conducts annual hockey games to benefit local charities.

In 2008, the Foundation conducted two charity games, one for Special Olympics New Mexico and the second for the Family Advocacy Center in Albuquerque.  Both events were successful in raising awareness for each organization s well as raising financial support for each.

The Family Advocacy Center is an organization operated by the City of Albuquerque and managed by the Albuquerque Police Department.  The Center is located in downtown Albuquerque and serves families in crisis resulting from domestic violence and other issues.  It is a safe haven for women and children in need.

In August of 2008, the IceHoles hockey club played a charity event against a combined squad of Albuquerque Police and Fire Department hockey players.  The event raised nearly $6,000 for the Family Advocacy Center and raised crucial awareness for the center and its mission in New Mexico.

As a result of that Foundation's efforts in the game, the Albuquerque Police Department nominated th3e IceHoles hockey club and Foundation for a Mayor's Move Up Award for outstanding volunteer organization.  The IceHoles were present3ed with the award on July 22 by the Mayor of Albuquerque, Martin Chavez, at the Albuquerque Museum of Art.

Commander Michael Geier submitted the nomination and was on hand for the award in addition to the Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz.

"This is a great honor for us at the Foundation," said Linda Morgan Davis, the Secretary treasurer for the Foundation.  "We are excited to be recognized for the hard work but also for added recognition the Family Advocacy Center receives today."

Over the last ten years the Foundation has raised more than $60,000 for local charities including the Special Olympics New Mexico effort of 2008.

The IceHoles Foundation is currently planning an event with the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association for late 2009 or early 2010 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of New Mexico.
