MANCHESTER, UK - RESURGENT Manchester Phoenix beat Milton Keynes Lightning 4-1 on Friday night to cement their place in the English Premier League's top four. Martin Cingel took his season's tally to 28 with a hat-trick as his teammates took their winning streak to three. He led Phoenix to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period with smart finishes from Slava Koulikov's feeds. Captain Luke Boothroyd put Koulikov in for Manchester's third in the second before Cingel fired home his hat-trick off James Archer and James Neil's good work. Stephen Fone was outstanding in Phoenix' goal – turning aside 20 shots – but a deserved clean-sheet was broken when Blaz Emersic scored with just 13 seconds left. “This was a fantastic performance by the lads,” injured player-coach Tony Hand said. “It is never easy to win here and Fone came up big when we needed it. “We were intelligent all night and we deserved the points.” Phoenix, who face Bracknell at home tomorrow (6.30pm), moved within three points of the Lightning in third but lie 12 points behind leaders Guildford.
