Depleted through injury and downed 3-1 by the same team on Saturday, they turned up the heat to secure a much-needed win. Although Tony Hand and Jaroslav Spelda joined their Phoenix teammates to warm up, both failed to shake off ankle injuries and were sidelined with Stephen Wallace (wrist). That saw Hand restructuring his lines and running with just two against a physical Phantoms outfit. But his young side, led by the excellent Ciaran Long and Tom Duggan, came of age. James Archer scored in the fifth minute as he opportunistically stuffed in a rebound off Stephen Wall in Peterborough's goal. 11 minutes later Slava Koulikov combined with Martin Cingel to make it 2-0. Cingel then notched his 18th of the season to all but end the Phantoms hopes of recording a double. Mindful of recent defensive lapses, Phoenix continued to battle and added a fourth through Duggan with four minutes left in the second period. Peterborough came out fighting in the third but Manchester killed off two penalties to deny their opposition any glimpse of a comeback. In the end, Luke Ferrara's 55th minute blaster from close range was nothing more than a consolation. Saturday's match saw the Phantoms hand Phoenix their eighth defeat in 12 matches. They had taken the lead when Koulikov found Faith and a pinpoint pass freed Cingel to power past Wall. But Phantoms equalised with 21 seconds left in the second when Ferrara picked up a rebound. Ferrara bagged his second in the third period then Jeff Glowa sealed the win. Phoenix now lie sixth in the English Premier League, six points behind leaders Slough who they face next Sunday.
